BEURLING ACADEMY

Two of BA’s track teams brought home some banners at the recent GMAA Outdoor Finals. The Boys’ Bantam team anchored by superstar Treyvon Grant, brought back the team silver honors with 74 points, 3 behind St. Thomas. Treyvon, who was the top individual with 23 points, picked up one gold and three bronzes, Julien Henry racked up 3 silvers, and both Nathaniel McKenzie and Thomas Jacob picked up a gold medal each. The team also won gold in both relay events.

The girls’midget team brought home the bronze for 3 rd place with 41 points, led by Melissa Edwards with two gold medals. Arianna Solomon got silver and a bronze. The team also picked silver and a bronze in the two relay events.

So it was a great year for BA track teams with 2 bantam boys silver medals and 2 girls midget team bronze honors.

Next Thursday the 4th, it’s the social highlight of the month around the local scholastic scene, as the convocation gets moved back to June, and this will allow all those hardworking students who otherwise might not be available in the fall due to work, CEGEP, or having moved, to cross the floor with their classmates of the past 5 years.

It’s the night where the graduating stars of BA shine with parents, friends, and invited guests looking on and honors going out to those who have achieved outstanding success in their last year with the various subject and special awards. We look forward to that event.
QFHSA AWARD 2009-HAROLD SPANIER

With all the excitement of the last few months, we neglected to mention an important award recipient in our midst. Harold Spanier, resident of Verdun, was awarded the Leslie N. Buzzell Award at the Annual Spring Conference at the Dorval Hilton. This award is for longstanding and meritorious service to the Provincial Home and School Federation.

Harold, who’s also a member of the Riverview Home and School, has been involved with QFHSA for the past 25 years and has given a lot of time for the cause. He was also instrumental in organizing the Fall Conference which was held at Riverview in October. Kudos to Harold and we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving.
VERDUN ELEMENTARY

It was another successful senior musical, as music teacher Miss Jennifer on the heels of the most successful Music Monday ever, led the senior grades into another entertaining show held at the BA Auditorium. It was called, “Compose Yourself, and it’s about students doing a report on their favorite composers and the composers come to life. The evening was filled with songs and some dancing to the music of the grand waltz. The audience also lucked out when one of the students wasn’t available and teacher Miss Deanna was enlisted to fill the role of one of the composers and had to don a black wig, and played the part well, but we still like her as a blonde. (lol)
Shown above are students Caledonia Dionne, Alexandra Goguen-Vallee, and Savannah Farquar during one of the drama scenes called, “Philadelphia” at the recent BA Performing Arts Show.
