$144 million ambulatory centre in 10 years
Huge project at Verdun Hospital
The news was announced when the building plan was presented during the board meeting of the Health and Social Services Centre of Verdun’s south west region on May 14. An ambulatory centre will be built in the next 10 years to be located in the hospital’s annex.
Given a 50% projected growth rate in visits for the next decade, the Health and Social Services Centre (CSSS) decided to build an ambulatory centre which will be independent of the hospital. It will however maintain links to the hospital’s services.
The specific location selected is right beside the unloading platforms. These platforms will in turn be re-located. The future centre will be equipped with access from Lasalle and Gaétan-Laberge boulevards. In the hospital’s overall plan, the number of elevators and drop off areas will be increased, as well as the addition of two floors. All administrative services will be consolidated on the ground floor over the course of the project consisting of three phases.
The first phase, costing $93 million, is the construction of the building itself which should take between five and seven years from the date the government files the decree authorising the project. The two other phases will be spread out over four years and will consist in the re-structuring of patient care facilities at a cost of $31 million as well as the addition of a fourth and fifth floor, evaluated at $19 million.
The entire project, the cost of which is estimated at $144,393,431.00, will also include a second food service area. The CSSS has plans of transferring about 40 temporary hospital beds at the Champlain housing centre.
