Beurling Academy:It was an artistic success! The first ever fashion show held at Beurling Academy was held without a hitch with great styles, cool colors, some up tempo music, and a crowd that got into the show. The months of practice and meetings showed with the students appearing on stage and then walking down the aisle, which acted as a runway, with poise.

The guys, who tend to get outnumbered at these events, were also a joy to watch as they wore their tuxes with aplomb and looked like they did this before. The makeup and hair styles were also pretty cool and were handled by a hard-working team backstage.

My co-host, CTV Montreal’s Lori Graham, was a delight to work with, and showed why she’s Montreal favorite weather girl, as she let us in on that warm charm we have come to know every evening on CTV News and recounted her days back in high school and also took the time to take pictures with some of students and parents after the show.

Those in attendance were treated to an evening of entertainment and pride for their students’ or friends’ hard work and dedication to make this evening a success.

It would also be fair to say it was an injustice to all those who worked so hard on this show, for the many members of the community who declined to attend or for those who decided to go to a Board event in Lachine, which was also held the following night and according to that event’s website had a lot of performers from last year. So much for originality!

A big thank you goes out to all the sponsors of the clothing worn on that evening. @ST:RIVERVIEW CLC
It would seem the Stanley Cup fever gripping the city got to Riverview’s Literacy night last week. A big drop in people showing up to take advantage of the 2-for-1 Scholastic book sale was evident as those who came got some great deals on that popular line of books. There were also some neat demonstrations on how to make a scrapbook and kids also got a chance to make paper puppets.

Also, while on the subject of books, the February Reader of the Month at the lunchtime book club was Amanda Ghandi for her 10 books read.

The grade 6 Grad committee also has some fundraising projects coming up, and the community is invited to support these grads. They are currently selling tix for a Mother’s Day raffle with the big prize being a $40.00 dinner certificate at the Caribbean LaSalle Resto. There are other subsidiary prizes including two MOM bracelets. Tickets are $1.00 each or 7 for $5.

On the weekend of May 9th-10th, the students will be bagging groceries at the Wellington Street Maxi, so do some shopping, let somebody else do the bagging and deposit some big coins in the cans provided. On the Friday, they will be there from 5 pm to 9 pm and on Saturday from 9 am to 4:30 pm.
COUNCIL NEWS
Finally, Monday, April 28th is the next council meeting and barring any changes, the Annual Administrative Shuffle will be held. It is the night when Sector Directors show up to see who they will be calling to let their Principals and VPs know where they will be working and for the teachers to know who their new bosses will be, if any, next year. Street talk continues to abound about one major change locally, so we will have to wait. HAVE A GREAT WEEK.
