Dietician Anabel Alpanese responds to all your questions
Tell me what you eat and I'll tell you how healthy you are!
The team from the Centre de santé du cœur (Heart Health Centre) will be in Verdun supermarkets over the next few weeks.
Loyal to its mission, the Centre de santé du cœur continues its campaign to raise awareness about how important good habits can be in life. The Centre is particularly interested in making sure people acquire good nutritional habits and that's why they will be visiting Verdun supermarkets and restaurants.
The program's coordinator, Marie-Laurence Cachat, accompanied by dietician Anabel Alpanes, will be meeting shoppers at supermarkets, according to a specified schedule.
The two women will make themselves available for a period of four hours in each participating supermarket. They won't be in a booth, but will circulate freely among the aisles; approaching shoppers and they will be easy to spot. Don't be shy to ask for their advice. They can guide you in making excellent choices and what to purchase when it comes to fruit, vegetables, fish and cereal.
Marie-Laurence Cachat revealed to us that this is a first for the island of Montreal and it's thanks to the collaboration of Verdun supermarket owners with organizers from the Centre de santé du cœur that it's become reality. The Verdun borough is after all one of the pioneers in Quebec in the emphasis it has placed in good nutrition.
Restaurants participating as well
Good nutrition is not limited to supermarkets though. With most people dining at restaurants a couple of times a week, it's essential that the message is relayed to them as well.
Restaurants that offer heart-healthy menus will receive the seal of approval and a series of distinctions will be awarded to the ones that comply with the nutritional standards set forth by the Centre. Just like gastronomic guides have a point system, the same will apply here. For more information, you can consult their website:
