B.A. Track Team: two more champs
It was another great week for Beurling Academy sports teams the previous week as two more banners came home to hang in the front office, and any more, we might not see the office inside.
The GMAA outdoor track finals were held in St. Laurent, and two of the 4 teams entered picked up first place titles. The boys’ juvenile team, in a total team effort, almost doubled their nearest threat, the private school LCC, with a 63-35 point total. Akeem Joseph was once again the top point getter with 15 points and the team picked up two first place finishes in relay events. Akeem was also given the nod, in a tie, with the outstanding athlete in his category.

The girls midget track squad, made up of only three members, comprised of the well established firm of Agard, Young, and Zuk Incorporated, single-handedly took on the field and got a team total of 61 points to runners-up, the Study, another private school, with 48 points. In two events, the team finished 1-2, and in another event, finished top three.

Shauna Agard, repeated her splendid indoor track performance with four first place finishes and a second place finish for a total of 32 points and to nobody’s surprise got the outstanding athlete nod. The one and only Susan Young picked up 16 points including one first place finish, and last but not least, the other member of the dynamic trio, Kathleen Zuk, picked up 13 points.

These victories cap off a great season for BA sports, having won 4 out of a possible 12 combined indoor and outdoor track events, and with earlier basketball and soccer titles, they will be the winningest Lester B. Pearson high school in the territory with 6 championships. Not bad for the easternmost school in the Board territory.

In other BA news, it’s time to once again to get in the mood for the upcoming jazz festival, with the Annual end-of-year Jazz Concert under the direction of music teacher Gary Lindner. The show is on this Thursday evening at 7 p.m.in the auditorium and this is always an event to be heard and to get in the mood for the upcoming lazy months of summer. The good folks from home and school will have their refreshment stand on hand and there will also be a hand half draw. Everyone is welcome.
