Three New Green Spaces in Verdun

The Commission de toponymie of the province of Québec has officialised the names of three new green spaces in the Verdun Borough. Two of these parks are located on L’Île-des-Sœurs and the third, in the Wellington–de l’Église neighbourhood.

"Over and above giving the Borough three new areas for rest and relaxation, I'm particularly proud to name one of these green spaces in memory of a former mayor who distinguished himself on the local scene, at both the municipal and provincial level", announced Verdun Borough Mayor Claude Trudel.

It has been named in honour of the late Lucien Caron (1929-2003), who was a Verdun City Councillor (1966-1977) and then Mayor of Verdun (1977-1985). He was also elected Liberal MNA for Verdun in 1970, and then re-elected in 1973, 1976 and 1981.

As it may be recalled, these park names were approved at the Verdun Council meeting on February 26 of this year. The Commission de toponymie is the public body responsible for managing Québec place names. It therefore has the role of approving such names that it considers to be in keeping with its criteria for selecting names and determining their written form.
