A new attack against littering in Montreal
Among the former cities of suburban Montreal, Verdun is the only one to have joined the ranks of the joint attack on a lack of cleanliness, on the island of Montreal. This is a testament to the borough's efforts and the success it has obtained.
In the presence of the mayors of six boroughs (one of them Verdun), Montreal mayor, Gérald Tremblay, and the man in charge of cleanliness on the executive committee, Marcel Tremblay, began a new chapter in the attack on dirtiness by attacking the actual cause: people's bad habits.

The measures announced are much more severe and restrictive than they have ever been in the past. "Inspectors of these six boroughs will no longer be content to hand out warnings; they will be handing out fines, which will vary from $60 to $1,000 depending on the offense, the borough and the recurrence," stated the Montreal mayor.

Verdun mayor, Claude Trudel, stated that he doesn't believe that many Verdun residents will be affected by these fines. "There's already a great willingness on the part of Verdunites to keep their borough clean and things will only get better," he explained, adding that the six inspectors on the job will have a very specific area to cover.

In 2006, the four downtown boroughs were targeted, while now, the boroughs of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie and Verdun are joining their ranks. There's no doubt that cleanliness will continue to be a priority for the City of Montreal.
