Verdun MNA Henri-Francois Gautrin was warmly greeted by his supporters.
Decisive victory for Henri-Francois Gautrin
The preliminary results indicated a tight race between Liberal candidate Henri-Francois Gautrin and PQ candidate, Richard Langlais, but by the end of the evening the votes were clearly in favour of Gautrin.
Around 9 p.m. it was becoming obvious that Verdun's current MNA was going to be re-elected and he took the stage, at the Bingodrome, on Bannantyne, to thank his supporters. He made a point of promising to be the MNA for ALL Verdun residents and congratulated the other candidates for a good race.
The final result accorded a victory to Gautrin with a majority of more than 3,500 votes over his main opponent, PQ candidate Richard Langlais. The ADQ also made serious progress in the riding, as well as the Green Party, which is a clear indicator of Verdunite's interest in environmental issues.
When one compares the 2007 results with 2003, voter participation appears to be similar. In 2003, 28,911 people voted, while in 2007, a total of 29,810 exercised their right to vote.
