BA GIRLS BASKETBALL: 4 IN A ROW
Since Beurling Academy’s inception in the 2003-04 school year, the school has had a championship girls basketball team in every year in either the juvenile or midget categories, so the pressure was on to continue the tradition as the BA midget division 3 girls team hosted Bialik High this past Wednesday in the city finals, and the ladies of the court failed to disappoint as they edged out their opponents 32-30 in a heartstoppper of a game which could have gone either way and brought home a 4th title.
It was a satisfying result after the team lost only 1 game in 10 starts, and gave the school a new superstar in Shauna Agard after being a second liner the past few seasons.

“After two years of bench-warming, I finally got a chance to play, and the opportunity to show my talent,” said Shauna after the game. This is exactly what she did as she led the way in the finals with 10 points and also netted 22 points in the 48-26 semi-final victory over LaurenHill. In one game this past season Shauna scored more than the opposition. Way to go girls, for another great year, and do I hear No.5?

The Bantam Girls team won their tie-breaker game against Queen of Angels 40-33 and move on to the quarter-finals this Tuesday at PCHS, but the Boys Midget team wasn’t so lucky, though, in their preliminary bowing to Lakeside 76-33, but after a 7-5 year seems poised for an even better season next year.
BELATED COUNCIL NEWS
An item we overlooked from the December council meeting, as a request was sent to the Education ministry for funding of a variety of capital projects to be done during the summer. Verdun Elementary is on this list for new windows at an estimated cost of $230,000. This begs the question: Are the original windows from 1961 of the BA building and the hazardous driveway to be taken care of as well soon? Let’s hope so!
RE-REGISTRATION
Another important registration period will be held this week as forms for students in Kindergarten thru Grade 5 and Secondary 1 thru 4 will be sent out this week. It is important that parents return these forms promptly as the School Board uses this information in order to organize the staffing requirements in terms of administrators and teachers of the various schools.
RIVERVIEW
Home and School would like to thank everyone that came out for last Saturday’s bingo where one lucky winner went home with a new color TV, and a special thanks to all the volunteers who helped setting up and cleaning up at the end of the evening.

Another reminder that the next adult book exchange is this Wednesday at 7 pm. at the school and a chance to pick up some new reading material for these cold winter evenings in exchange for books you’ve read.
TEACHER/STAFF WEEK
Finally, this was teacher staff/appreciation week. We would be remiss if we didn’t recognize those individuals who day in and day out, dedicate themselves in the name of our children’s education, from the secretaries who keep those offices going, to the librarians who keep those libraries well-stocked, to the caretakers who keep the buildings clean, and to those great teachers, who educate our young ones and help prepare them for that great big world out there.

YOUR EFFORTS ARE NOT OVERLOOKED.
