Gautrin in favour of a modern government
He will run as a Liberal candidate again
Defying the rumours that were circulating that he might be retiring, Henri-Francois Gautrin has solicited and obtained, without any opposition, the candidacy for the Quebec Liberal Party in the Verdun riding, for the next elections.
In the presence of more than a hundred partisans, friends and colleagues, the Verdun QLP investiture assembly took place on Sunday, December 3, in the basement of the Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs Church. A spaghetti dinner followed the meeting. In the National Assembly since 1989 consecutively, Henri-Francois Gautrin hopes to serve a fifth mandate for the Verdun people who have always awarded him a comfortable majority. Retired from the Université de Montréal, where he taught mathematics, the MNA has retained a pragmatic attitude and a Cartesian spirit.

Among the guests at this meeting were Finance Minister, Michel Audet, and Revenue Minister Lawrence Bergman, as well as mayor Claude Trudel, councillors Alain Tassé and Paul Beaupré.

In a commanding voice, Henri-Francois Gautrin delivered his short, yet forceful speech. “Verdun supporters, I would like to thank you for being here. Your support throughout the years validates my decision to run again for the Quebec Liberal Party in the next elections."

Believing that the next elections will be very important for the Quebec population, Gautrin added: “The population will have to decide between voting for a government that is deeply involved in surmounting all of Quebec’s challenges of tomorrow or electing a new government that will plunge Quebec in a climate of instability, with only a referendum on their mind. I’m proud to be a member of Jean Charest’s team which is focusing on development and the well-being of Quebecers.

Gautrin was elected for the very first time as Verdun MNA in September 25, 1989, a riding that he went on to easily win during the next four elections. As an MNA, Gautrin has assumed a number of responsibilities and served as a spokesperson for many local causes. He was appointed delegated online minister on February 18, 2005 and since February 27, 2006 has served as Minister of Governmental Services.
