Prepare to pay more to park
More revenues for the borough
Prepare to pay more to park
(PL) - The Verdun borough adopted new rates for its public parking and parking meters, which will be coming into effect January 1, 2007.
While recognizing that increased parking rates will translate into more revenues for the borough, mayor Claude Trudel also notes that this new measure may incite some residents to use public transportation more often. With three metro stations on its territory, Verdun is a victim of its own popularity and a number of drivers leave their cars on the street throughout the day.

A monthly pass for public parking off the street, will increase from $42 to $49. The annual permit for residents, allowing them to park on the street will be $50.

Parking meters will increase to $1 per hour, starting January 1, 2007. On Wellington’s commercial sector and adjacent to it, parking meters will start running at 9 a.m. instead of 10 a.m. Free parking on Sundays will be maintained. On LaSalle Blvd, between de l’Eglise and Hickson, additional slots will be added to the hours people already pay for parking. For example:

- from 9 a.m to 10 a.m., Monday to Saturday;

- from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays;

- from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Parking machines will also see their hourly rates increase on January 1, 2007. They will go from 75 cents to $1 per hour and the maximum daily rate will increase by $2, going from $5 to $7.
Now you’ll have to pay
Parking will now be charged in areas that used to be free: Lesage (between Dupuis and Hickson), Henri-Duhamel (adjacent to the Canadian Tire) and Guy- Gagnon (Circus School). The monthly parking pass for employees of the Centre hospitalier de Verdun will now be $49. The daily pass for part-time employees, will, from now on, be $2.75 per day. This increase was not well received by the hospital’s employees.

Monthly parking passes will increase starting January 1, 2007, while parking meter increases will take place gradually, as meters are reprogrammed.
