Archeological Work to Be Carried Out at the Site of Maison Saint-Dizier

This work is required within the project to restore this house, which is located at 7244 LaSalle Boulevard, at the corner of Lloyd-George Street.

SACL's work involves preliminaries (evaluating the nature and scope of the archeological operations to be carried out), the archeological excavation, archeological supervision of certain work, an archeological inventory, analysis and an archeological report. The service contract has been estimated at $140,000 and will be funded from the $500,000 grant received from Ville de Montréal, within a management agreement, on preservation of the built heritage, reached between Ville de Montréal, the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec and the Société d’habitation du Québec.

Based on the findings of an initial archeological inventory carried out in 2005, inside and within the immediate surroundings of the house, there is archeological soil under the ground of the building as well as in the outdoor adjacent areas.

"Under the Cultural Property Act, Ville de Montréal is obliged to enforce certain measures to protect archeological resources when it carries out work underground, on its properties," explained Borough Mayor Claude Trudel. "The contract that has just been awarded to SACL inc. is therefore making it possible for the City to meet its legal obligations in this regard, while ultimately allowing us to trace part of our history," concluded Mr. Trudel.
