Riverview students raise funds for The Montreal Children’s Hospital
During the week of Sept. 18th, six students from the Riverview school daycare, held a fundraiser for the Montreal Children’s Hospital cancer unit. The students are: Amanda Graham, Emma Gravel, Michelle and Tyler McKenzie, and Brianna and Tallia Veltri McLean.
The girls were involved in the whole project; they started the process by making their own posters, then setting up tables and collecting the donations. They voluntarily gave up participating in the various activities offered by the daycare during the week to concentrate on their fundraising efforts. They raised 100.00$. The whole amount has been given to the said cause.
The girls felt the need to give something back to the hospital for all the help that they have given to the many children. As Amanda Graham stated “I remember when my brother was little and he had asthma and we had to go to the hospital, they would help him and they were also nice to us". Michelle and Tyler McKenzie remembered receiving great care from the staff at the hospital when they had to use the hospital's emergency services.
The daycare staff would like to congratulate the girls for their caring and thoughtfulness.
In other Riverview news, librarian Jennifer Holmes once again sends us a reminder about the adult book exchange this Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the library. This will be an excellent chance to trade for a book or two that you never read and some fine conversation amongst friends.
The students are also getting ready for the resumption of the lunchtime book club and this year they will be making a book on multiculturalism and their ideas on the diversity in Canada. The goal, once again, will be to read 100 books. Happy Reading.

BEURLING ACADEMY
First of all, we would like to extend our best wishes to Marion Sexton, who was elected by acclamation to Chair this year’s Governing Board at last Wednesday evening’s first Board meeting of the year.
If you will be walking or driving around B.A. this coming Thursday, and you see large groups of students running or walking around the area of the school, don’t panic. The students will be taking part in the annual Terry Fox Day and with a 1.00 donation; they will be able to dress down. All students will be taking part by walking or running for 30 minutes followed by a sports activity of their choice.
If you’re also an owner of a fruit market, depanneur, or have contacts with a supermarket, the school will be appreciative of any donations of snacks, chips, cookies, or drinks. If you can donate, call Debi Dixon at the school at 766-2357 and leave a message.
