Liberal candidate Christian Feuillette demands respect for young offenders

The Liberal candidate Christian Feuillette, finds it unconceivable to hear that the present government is planning to impose adults’ sentences to offenders, as young as 14 years old. He questions himself as to how the actual government can think of having such a law adopted.

Christian Feuillette and the Liberals clearly stand by the Liberal party traditions as well as by the values of the citizens of Jeanne-Le Ber. They find it unacceptable for a young 14 year old offender to be treated as an adult and, being incarcerated with hardened criminals is not the solution to their problem. “ A young offender needs to benefit from all available rehabilitation programs. At 14, there is still time to bring on positive changes that could influence the rest of his/her life. And, in Jeanne-Le Ber, we understood that.” Says Mr Feuillette. Formétal in Pointe-St-Charles, Cible Retour à l’Emploi (Target back to Work) and l’Ancre des Jeunes (Youngsters’ Anchor) in Verdun guide youngsters and help them find jobs. Today, numerous young people live a productive and positive life because of the available rehabilitation and prevention programs. That is the approach favoured and defended by Christian Feuillette and the Liberals: the right to respect for citizens of all ages.
Veterans
Christian Feuillette claims that the actual government ought to immediately back up on its decision to deprive veterans of the possibility of receiving the new Sacrifice Medal. Christian Feuillette confirms that all who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces and who have sacrificed their life or health deserve our greatest respect. Government should not arbitrarily decide which sacrifice deserves a bigger gratitude.

The new Sacrifice Medal recognizes a member of the Canadian Forces who has been killed or wounded under honourable circumstances as a direct result of hostile action. Christian Feuillette totally disagrees with the actual government on the October 7, 2007 date limit, which precludes all Canadian soldiers wounded or killed in peace missions for the past fifty years, as well as soldiers who have participated in the World War II or in the Korean War. Moreover, since said limit date of October 7, 2007, some members of the Canadian Armed Forces are excluded on the principle that their death is not a direct result of enemy’s artillery fire.

Christian Feuillette finds that the limit date is unacceptable. Our veterans deserve much better and this undeniable error of judgment will be corrected by a new Liberal government.

During the campaign, Christian Feuillette can be reached at the electoral office located at 4616 Wellington, Verdun. Tel: (514) 766-7708.
