Verdun School News
Well, it’s been a quiet month with the March break, the Easter break, a few ped days, and that snow on the roof day.
But the cynical among us have to wonder though, begging these questions. Would the Board have closed the schools on the Monday or Tuesday, instead of Thursday, the last day before the Easter weekend? Would any of the Boards have closed any schools if that tragic event in Morin Heights did not occur? Have you ever heard of the domino effect? April and May, though, look like to be shaping up as busy months.
VERDUN ELEMENTARY
Some students from the school are getting excited for Monday’s Council meeting at Board offices. The VE band under the direction of music teacher, the one and only Miss Jennifer, will be performing for the Council of Commissioners and members of the public. It has been customary for Council during the last few years to have bands perform, or to recognize a student or teacher or someone in the board for a certain project, amongst other many other reasons.

It is a great way for council and the public to see some of the great happenings in the education system. We are also informed of a certain tune to be played by the band for one Commissioner, it should be a hoot. We will, of course be there to report on this important event for the VE band.
COUNCIL
Speaking of Council, this is an important time always for them. They, along with the administration, are busily putting together the budget for the 2008-2009 school year. As well, they are also working on the list of administrative appointments for next year, both at the Board and the local level due to such things as: retirements, transfer, and promotions. These are usually announced at the end of April. There is talk on the streets about one major change locally, but it would be pointless to speculate at this time. Stay tuned!
BEURLING ACADEMY
Fifteen students from Miss Tamara Beach’s Secondary Two Moral Education and Catholic Religious classes represented Beurling Academy at the 2007-2008 "Say It Loud" Montreal Forum recently held at the Holiday Inn Midtown last Friday on March 18th. Many high schools from both the public and private sectors were represented.

Throughout the day, the students learnt about the marketing techniques used by tobacco companies. The students participated in interactive workshops on communication, building arguments as well as project implementation. Comedian Jean-Thomas Jobin provided the entertainment for this special event. A congrats also goes to student Brandon Gordon who was one of the winners in a draw held that day.

Last, but not least, get ready for BA’s first ever fashion show in April. Look out for the info next week in both the Verdun and LaSalle Messengers.
RIVERVIEW

@R:Students from Grades 3 to 6, will be performing in their first ever talent show. The show will be held on Thursday, April 10th at the BA auditorium from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 and are on sale at the school and will be available at the door.
