VERDUN SCHOOL NEWS
GOOD MORNING /GOOD AFTERNOON. Question: have we had our last storm of the year? Will it be biking season soon? But we can tell you to keep your calendars open for some upcoming major happenings just around the corner. Keep April 10th, April 17 and May 3rd open for some events at Riverview and the big one on April 18th at Beurling Academy.
MOVIE WINNERS
We would like to congratulate our two winners of movie passes to our last contest for the premiere of Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who”. Debbie Adams of Godin Avenue and Caroline Belair won family four –packs courtesy of 20th Century-Fox Pictures.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CASSANDRA
Speaking of winners, I would like to extend a very special Happy Birthday Wish to one of my all-time favorite grads from BA, Miss Cassandra Wakefield, who you might recall we ran a special feature on during the summer for her fund-raising project at the school last year. Her big day is this week, and being a gentleman, one cannot tell a lady’s age, but for those of who you out there who know her, why not give her a ring or an email or even a text message and extend a wish, it might just make her day. To Mr. and Mrs. Wakefield, I should also mention, that we in the media business just love birthday cakes.
BEURLING ACADEMY
Sports: We would like to congratulate, once again, the Bantam Boys indoor track team for bringing home the Championship banner and that splendid performance by Treyvon Grant who picked up five medals including two gold and kudos to coaches Ed Humphries and Fabio Lamberto.
We would also like to acknowledge the 2 basketball teams who went into the playoffs as well. For the first time, there was a bantam boys basketball team in the playoffs, and we salute them for that great 8-2 record, and to the girls juvenile team, there was that nice thought of winning a 5th straight girls’ title in either the midget or juvenile category, but you have every reason to hold your heads high as you still were in the playoffs for a 5th year in a row, something not too many schools have done, and we hear from coach Amanda Liste that most of the team is intact for next year, with only one grad, so we look forward to next year
And all three girls’ badminton teams have started their seasons but all bowed out in their first matches and travel to Villa Maria this coming Thursday.
RIVERVIEW
A lot as usual is happening here. From the Lunchtime Book club, The February Reader of the Month was Amanda Ghandhi with the target of 10 books read. On March 17, Author Norman Navrocki will be working with book club students. They are working on creating their own newspaper this year. Mr. Navrocki also helped out last year with that great book the Club put together called, “Friends Like Me”
Grad committee is hosting a St. Patrick's Hat Day this Monday (cost $1.00) and a bake sale on this Tuesday the 18th with all proceeds going towards their year end activities. So wear a hat and buy some goodies and support the grads. And last but not least, Home and School is running an Easter raffle with the draw this Thursday with the Grand Prize being a humungous 5-lb chocolate bar with a beany baby and four other prizes to be won. Tickets are 50 cents with three for $1.00 and the deadline to buy tix is on Thursday.
