Ferry will serve as shuttle between L’Île-des-Sœurs and mainland
Pedestrians and cyclists of L'Île-des-Sœurs can soon take advantage of a ferry service to and from Verdun’s mainland. This new service is expected to be operational during the month of May.
During the February 5 council meeting, municipal officials adopted a resolution alongside this project. The Urban Development Department has been authorised to draft a lease with a potential 10-year term with the Clobé Maritime Corporation to implement this ferry service. This service will do a crossing between a spot near the Adrien-D. Archambault Park in L’Île-des-Sœurs and Verdun’s Marina near the Crescendo restaurant. Councillor Paul Beaupré who is overseeing this project confirms that the ferry service will begin as soon as the weather makes it feasible. It seems that it will be a summer link similar to the ferry service between Pointe-aux-Trembles and Îles de Boucherville.

He also explained that the pontoon would be able to accommodate a dozen passengers and six bicycles. It is estimated that a crossing going both directions can be completed at intervals of 12 or 15 minutes. The cost for each passage will be similar to other ferry services in the region – approximately $2.50 per person.

This project is part “of Verdun’s efforts to make the shoreline and water plans more accessible”, according to Mr. Beaupré.

All costs related to the implementation and operations of the ferry service will be for the account of the developer. The Borough will therefore have no financial responsibility in implementing and operating this service.

It should be noted that this project is in no way related to the creation of a committee intended to evaluate the relevance of building a bridge between the island and Verdun’s downtown core.
