VERDUN SCHOOL NEWS
The Christmas activities have started and there is more to come, and Alvin and the Chipmunks have arrived. We would also like to thank music teacher Gary Lindner and BA Administration for allowing us into the music class for our article last week. It was a great experience, thanks for all the great comments on that story.
MOVIE PASS WINNERS
We would like to thank all those who called in for our movie premiere contest, and the three winners are as we were given a few more passes: Carol Juzalaitis, Barbara Kane, and Debbie Shaw, so they got to see the movie before the public courtesy of Verdun School News and 20th Century-Fox Pictures. You just never know what flick we might have next, so keep on reading!
VERDUN ELEMENTARY
It was another inspiring performance from the VE choir under the direction of music teacher Miss Jennifer Hayden. They were part of the Christmas tree illuminations festivities at the Borough City Hall last Tuesday. The choir sang Little Drummer Boy and Let it Snow, which seeing the weather these days seemed just right. To Miss Jennifer, the choir seems to be getting bigger and sounding better.
BEURLING ACADEMY
Wow, the next item on the Christmas agenda was on Wednesday with the Drama Dept.’s presentation of that classic, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol” under the direction of drama teacher Jim Colley. It was a smashing success. It was student acting at its finest. The play went off without a hitch, and lines and acting were simply flawless. The costumes of that famed British era in which it was set were colorful and depicted a time gone by.
The choir was a joy to listen to and they sang like angels from above and were an excellent support for the fine acting. It would an injustice to name a few people as everybody was awesome, but I allow myself for a special mention to Evin Chalapu who played Scrooge and Justin Totino who played Marley’s ghost.
The finale where the whole cast brought a few tears to a few people on the final song “The Magic of Christmas Day” was something to behold. To Jim Colley and all those involved, you did BA proud.
This week, also brings us Gary Lindner’s Annual Christmas Music Concert this Friday to keep us in the festive mood. The show starts 7 pm and tickets are $5.00 and get ready for some nice musical surprises.
RIVERVIEW
The school will also be doing their thing for the community this coming Thursday evening. The Riverview Carolers will be caroling from Brault to Rolland from about 6 to 7 but this is dependant on the weather. The students will be collecting canned goods during the caroling.
Collecting non perishables from now until end of the year for needy families in our school and community will also be continuing at the school so you can drop off your contributions at the school.
The recent Scholastic Book Fair was another success and we congratulate our winner of the “Alvin and the Chipmunks” movie pass draw at the Fair, which was Carol Ann Sheppard. HAVE A GREAT WEEK
