Shown above is an unidentified Halloween personality making an appearance during the recent Halloween evening a Riverview School.
Verdun School News
GOOD MORNING/GOOD AFTERNOON. This week’s paper will be published for Sunday, November 11th. It was on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. It was the war to end all wars. This is not the place to debate the merits of war, but it is the time to thank all those who gave their lives in the service of their country. «We shall never forget».
RIVERVIEW
Home and School reports that a couple of their recent activities were a smashing success. The Pumpkin Patch where visitors could buy a pumpkin at a great price was emptied out in about half an hour of about 150 pumpkins or so.
The always popular Halloween Night, a school event, was next and had the visitors admiring the great pumpkin works of art. Some that caught our eyes was one with a Beetlejuice theme; one had smoke billowing inside with a scary creature inside; yet another had a pumpkin eating a burger with a pair of short hands. The name of this pumpkin was called McGross, and another was a pumpkin in what seemed to be in a yard filled with Halloween symbols. Visitors also had the chance to enter the Haunted area at their own risk (smile) and encounter strange happenings behind curtains and any other areas where someone could jump out at you. Miss Angelique, one of my favorite witches, also made a return appearance giving out some Halloween treats.
Last Saturday’s Fundraiser bingo was also a winner with close to 100 players hoping for a chance at some prizes and that TV/DVD combo unit. The half and half also paid big dividends with one lucky individual taking home a couple of hundred dollars.
BEURLING ACADEMY
Halloween was also on the agenda her on the 31st as teachers and students dressed up in their finest. Administrators also made a valiant attempt to fool your local writer this year, but it was a nice try (smile). A couple of the outfits that got our attention were one student dressed up as a Kleenex box, one as a cowboy riding his horse, and three students dressed in neat white sheets. I wonder if they were the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.
This Thursday is that long awaited afternoon and evening where parents find out the progress of their children at the parent-teacher interviews. It will also be your chance to win a weekend for 2 at the Delta Centre-Ville Hotel with Sunday Brunch high atop the 30th floor at the Tour de Ville, Montreal’s only Revolving Restaurant, during the 5th Anniversary Raffle which we’re sponsoring along with the Grads of ’08. There will also be other prizes courtesy of CTV Montreal and a dinner certificate from Guido and Angelina, that fine Italian restaurant at the Pepsi Forum. Tix are 1 for $2, 3 for $3, 10 for $5, and a super pack of 30 tix for $10.
A big congrats goes out to the girls’ division 3 juvenile soccer team as they won the City Title doubling Lakeside Academy 4-2. The MVP was Sofia Curzi, who led the way with 2 goals and also kudos to the girls bantam soccer team who made it to the finals but lost in a heartbreaker to Laval junior 1-0.
