Three days of celebrations for Centre culturel's 40th
(PL) – The Centre culturel de Verdun is celebrating 40 years and a number of activities have been planned on September 28, 29 and 30.
The opening ceremonies will be taking place outdoors, in front of the Centre culturel on Friday, September 28, at 7 p.m., and then a meeting with author Kim Yaroshevskaya will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the library. Singer Francois Lavallée and musician Normand Perron will also share the stage, at 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, September 29, at 10 a.m. Le Théâtre La Simagrée will present a show, "Le monstre et les 5 oursons", for youngsters 3 to 8 years old.

From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., there will be music for young and old, while at 2 p.m. a contemporary dance routine will be performed by Taafé Fanga. Storytelling will be on the agenda at 3 p.m., compliments of Verdun's African Theatre. Participants will also be able to take some juggling lessons, puppet-making workshops, learn how to paint a mural or admire African art, compliments of the Maison d'Afrique. Sunday night, at 7:30 p.m. a film by Luc Besson, "Arthur et les Minimoys" (French version) will be shown outdoors.

One of celebration's highlights will be the 2 p.m. Bossa Blue performance of Florence K, the new jazz and bossa singing sensation. Passes are required for this event.

Throughout the weekend, the Centre culturel library will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Library members will also be able to borrow 40 documents, instead of 20, to mark the anniversary.

The Verdun Photo Club will also have an exhibit taking place, while a separate exhibition will also commemorate the 40 most important events marking the centre's 40-year history.

Admission is free. In certain cases, passes are required. For more information on the celebration, as well as where to obtain passes, you can call 765-7170.
