Information Meeting on the Montréal Charter of Rights and Responsibilities
The Verdun Borough will be holding an information meeting on the Montréal Charter of Rights and Responsibilities, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, in the Salon des Grands Verdunois, on the 5th floor of Borough Hall. This meeting, which will precede the Council meeting, is intended for all Verdunites who want to know more about the Charter and its effect on democratic life in the Borough.

By organizing this meeting, Verdun Borough Council wants to follow up on a request made by residents with regard to the Charter. A representative of Ville de Montréal will in fact be on hand to give the presentation.

As it may be recalled, the Montréal Charter of Rights and Responsibilities was adopted by Ville de Montréal's City Council on June 20, 2005 and came into force on January 1, 2006. Developed by the Task Force on Democracy, set up following the Montréal Summit (2002), this Charter recognizes the common values shared by Montrealers and facilitates the City's harmonious development.

Within an innovative approach, the Charter establishes the principles of rights and responsibilities. It provides for concrete commitment on the part of Ville de Montréal and its staff to constantly improve its services to the public. It also appoints a neutral and impartial authority—the City's Ombudsman—to promote solutions when there is a disagreement between a resident and the City, on issues based on its contents.

The meeting on October 2 is therefore an opportunity for Verdun residents to familiarize themselves with the Montréal Charter of Rights and Responsibilities and to see how it can be applied to the realities of the Verdun Borough. Everyone is welcome!
