Round up your hazardous, household waste
The Verdun borough is inviting residents to round up all their Hazardous Household Waste (HHW) in preparation for the upcoming collection, to be held on Saturday, September 22 at the Ateliers municipaux building, 1177, rue Dupuis. Residents from all three neighbourhoods, will have a chance to come and dispose of their HHW there, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Here are some of the products that will be accepted at this collection:

leftover latex or alkyd paint used, motor oil, AAA to D alkaline batteries, dead rechargeable batteries, Ni-Cd, Ni-MH, Li-ion or Pb car batteries, acid-based and basic cleaning products: metal polish, soldering paste, wood stain, fertilizer, disinfectant, plumbing products to unclog pipes, photography products, mercury from thermometers or fluorescent lights, carpet and window cleaners, etc., solvents, such as turpentine, Varsol, nail polish remover, anti-freeze, paint remover, windshield washer fluid, oil lamp fuel, fondue fuel, etc. pesticides: fungicides, herbicides and insecticides chlorine for pools and other oxidizing agents: scouring powder, hydrogen peroxide expired medication adhesives, epoxy, stains aerosols in cylinders or pressurized containers of various products: butane, insecticides, insulating foam, etc. propane: full or empty cylinders organic solids and liquids: floor wax, solid combustibles, ink, glue, roofing tar, engine grease, furniture polish, liquid resin.

And don't forget that the Borough collects used batteries (rechargeable or not) all year long at its main municipal buildings: Borough Hall, Centre Marcel-Giroux, Centre Elgar, Centre culturel and at the Ateliers municipaux building.

The HHW collection is perfectly in keeping with the Borough's new environmental orientations aimed at reducing the amount of landfill waste. HHW in fact poses major risks to residents' health and to the environment; it is therefore strictly prohibited to dispose of it along with regular garbage or in the sewers.
