Chapiteau Physergo closes
Dr. Cadieux turns the Page
The end of cultural activities at the Physergo tent created a lot of reaction, but it doesn't appear like it will become a war of words between the borough and Dr. Roger Cadieux, the president of the Forum économique de Verdun. Although the latter appears disappointed, he seems to be willing to turn the page on this venture.
Those who took advantage of activities at the tent, will undoubtedly be disappointed to hear that there will be no more activities near the Natatorium. However, the borough will soon be presenting a more modest program of activities for the summer. The administration seems to be aiming at finding something that will better integrate into the overall borough's cultural and athletic programs and events.
Last week, borough mayor Claude Trudel, explained to the media that certain activities at the Chapiteau were attracting a limited crowd and Verdun wanted to avoid too much redundancy with some planned activities. As well, there was also a problem with some outdoor installations failing to conform to the urban plan.
It's also known that the borough aims to provide a different summer program, now that the "Emballons-nous" festival has met its demise. The summer of 2007 will be a transition of sorts for a more established and concrete program in 2008.
Mr. Trudel emphasized that the decision had absolutely nothing to do with the admiration and respect that all council members have for Dr. Cadieux, who has helped more than 1,000 people work or complete an internship program since the Forum économique was founded.

Joined by phone by The Messager, Dr. Cadieux seemed hesitant to discuss the Chapiteau Physergo decision. "Yes, the borough decided to take over the premises," he confirmed, adding that Verdun was always free to cancel this annual agreement, at any time.
Dr. Cadieux revealed that discussions were underway with organizers of the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes Church for cultural activities and concerts to take place there this summer.
