This athlete lives in L'Île-des-Sœurs and has just completed his second winter ski jumping competition. He succeeded in his three-jump performance with multiple upside rotations as well as three entrance ramps with backward, clockwise and counter clockwise rotations in the 14-year old and younger category in Mont-Tremblant. “Simon started skiing when he was only 20 months old and at that time he was already looking for small jumps on the side slopes”, his mother Lynda Hudon-Lauzé, said. She added that Simon completed the Alpine Ski Federation trials at age 9. Because he had to wait until he was 16 to continue to the next level – that of instructor – he discovered ski jumping in the meantime.
Suggestive nicknameAs soon as Simon started ski jumping, his trainer Simon Lavigne nicknamed him The Machine because he just never stopped. Even after winning a competition, he goes back to the hills to ski jump”, the athlete’s mother explained.
Mrs. Hudon-Lauzé also said that Simon motivates members of his ski jumping team by his fearless endeavours - even if he is the youngest team member. “He was doing rotation and half rotation jumps at age 11 and this year he succeeded, at age 14, in doing three turns with crossed skis held by one arm”, Mrs. Hudon-Lauzé said with pride. She encourages Simon to follow his passions.
Taking advantage of spring break before his competition, Simon Lauzé practised a series of ski jumps from morning to night. “At least he is all tanned by engaging in exercise and being in the fresh outdoor air”, his mother said happily. Simon will have the chance to add to his success record during a jumping competition on March 28, followed by a ramp competition on March 29 in Mont-Tremblant.
Simon Lauzé is also a tennis buff. He is part of the training team of the Île-des-Sœurs tennis club and in April will play in a tournament in St. Eustache. His mother is overjoyed because her son is also academically successful in spite of his pursuit of athletic challenges.
