Richard Langlais is tenacious and is not one to give up on a battle regardless of the circumstances. Life has not always been easy for this baker-pastry chef who has experienced a series of both disappointments and impressive financial success. In his speech to party militants last Sunday, the PQ candidate compared Barak Obama to René Lévesque saying that these two men acted because they had a vision. “We’re probably something like great people”, Richard Langlais repeated. The Verdun businessman continued his speech by attacking Jean Charest and the Liberals. “Why hold an election? Because Jean Charest wanted to extend his term. While our factories close and people lose their jobs not knowing how to pay for their mortgage or car or purchase groceries, Mr. Charest is telling us: me, I’m just thinking of my position”, the PQ candidate said.
Raising subjects such as health care, daycare and Quebec’s financial situation, the PQ candidate was sarcastic about the results announced by the Liberals and the present reality which is less rosy. “Regarding the CPE, Minister Courchesne created new daycare places, responding to 100% of the needs of his Laval riding, but elsewhere in Quebec, only 30% of the needs were met”, Richard Langlais pointed out.
"If we look at social housing”, he added, “three years ago statistics revealed that more than 350 families were waiting for housing in Verdun; the situation is worse today.”
Party militants who attended the opening of the campaign office were impressed about the biting speech delivered by a candidate who is campaigning alongside Pauline Marois with intentions to reverse survey results and to have a PQ government take over on December 8. "As for me, I decided to oppose this administration by running as a candidate”, said Richard Langlais in closing. The assembly was followed by the visit of re-elected federal MP of the Bloc, Thierry St-Cyr.
