(PV) NDP candidate Daniel Breton (Jeanne-Le Ber) explained how the NDP’s platform mirrors the priorities of citizens in Jeanne-Le Ber. This platform, announced last Sunday, aims to assist today’s families in making ends meet.
“Among the things that are crystal clear to me are the federal strategy for building affordable housing; immediate reforms to the unemployment insurance system so that workers have access to the support they are entitled to; measures for reducing greenhouse gases; withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan; and especially the new unified benefit for children, which will be a bonus for each family”, Daniel Breton confirmed.
He supports the fact that Jack Layton presented a prudent plan and that he has chosen to help people today instead of reducing taxes for large companies. “The families of Jeanne-Le Ber who have difficulties in managing until the end of the month deserve a government and a prime minister who listen to their priorities”, he added. The neo-democratic platform that seeks a balanced budget every year can be viewed on the party’s web site at: www.npd.ca/plateforme/.
Mr. Breton also participated last Sunday in the company of other NDP candidates in the huge demonstration staged by the Fédération des femmes du Québec (Quebec Women’s Federation) against bill C-484 and all new attempts to interfere with the right to abortion. He therefore reacted to a brochure from Thierry St-Cyr which suggested that the NDP as a party supported bill C-484. Mr. Breton pointed out that on the contrary, the NDP is decidedly pro-choice and has always worked to advance the rights of women and their access to abortion. He confirmed that Mr. St-Cyr is using an inappropriate strategy to attack a party that is doing very well in Jeanne-Le Ber.
