First off, we would like to thank those who emailed and called in with those great comments last week concerning our feature article on BA student Amanda Pidlisny, and a special thanks to Amanda and her parents for allowing us to put this one together.

Sujets :
VERDUN SCHOOL , La Presse , Gazette Christmas Fund , Burundi , Westmount

Recent movie contest winners were: for “High school Musical 3”; June Bennett and Diane Lussier. For “Twilight”; Michael Provost and Joyce Gauthier, and for “Bolt”; Diane Lussier, Jeanne Desjardins, and Jackie Massicotte, and look out for more great flicks next month.

RIVERVIEW

Did I hear BINGO? The next great fundraiser bingo will this Saturday at 7 and doors open at 6:30, and check out the grand prizes. They are: a portable DVD player and a digital picture frame, plus lots of other great prizes. Cost is the usual $10 in advance and $12 at the door. You will also have a chance to win some cold cash with the half and half and refreshments will also be available and lots of great door prizes, so see you at the bingo.

The mild-mannered Jennifer Holmes sends us news about the CLC on behalf of the new CLC Coordinator, Miss Audrey Ottier and an invitation to the community for coffee and snacks every Friday in the CLC room from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Why you ask? Besides making new friends in a relaxed atmosphere, we would like to know what courses and workshops you would like to see in the new CLC and they could range from basic Computer Skills to employment workshops to learning how to cook healthy cheap meals.

I also hear Audrey makes a mean coffee and it’s better than Tim’s so which means we accept the invite to take up the coffee challenge and give some ideas of our own that might be good for the community, and it’s good to hear from you Miss Jennifer, long time no hear!

BEURLING ACADEMY

There is a lot of great stuff happening in the community services area of BA these days. Teacher Miss Amanda Liste informs us that you have until the 25th to order those nice Christmas cards in aid of building a school in Burundi, and you can download the order form from the BA website.

The Christmas season soon upon us, BA’s community services are front and centre in thinking of the needy of our community, and from Miss Tamara Beach we got the lowdown on what’s happening here. Currently, the Annual Food Drive for Share the Warmth for non-perishable items to be brought to the homerooms is on and the deadline here is December 8th.

Also from Miss Beach, her 12 classes/groups are in the midst of the Socks for Pops Drive asking her students to bring in new pairs of socks to be donated to that great outfit. Dans la Rue. These socks will help many of Montreal’s kids stay warm, and the deadline here is the week of December 8th.

Another great initiative, is “Chore for Change”, where students, in their spare time, will be asked to offer assistance to someone in the community, such as: walking the dog, raking leaves, in return for a donation which will be given to the Gazette Christmas Fund. These last two initiatives are part of the Community Life component of the new Ethics and Religious Culture program.

In BA Sports, congrats goes out to coaches Jeff Dort, Marco Gagliardi, and Mike Loiseau and the juvenile boys touch football team for winning the City Championships defeating LaSalle Comprehensive, and kudos goes out as well to Tamara Beach and Kyle Rougeau and the girls midget volleyball team for winning silver as they came up short to Westmount in a tense City Final. Last but not least, congrats goes out to Sec 2 student Catherine Henriques-Leclerc, who won a new laptop as part of a La Presse- Desjardins contest to complete a crossword in a reading program sponsored by La Presse with students at BA being entered by French teacher Miss Jocelyne Bergeron.
