For starters, from Home and School, keep these dates in mind, October 30th is the date for the Haunted House and Decorative Pumpkin evening, but this will be preceded by last year’s highly successful Pumpkin Patch on the 28th where families can pick a pumpkin.
Those tasty chocolates are selling at a quick pace, with close to 40 students having been eligible for the Early Bird draw of a $50 Toys ‘r Us certificate and the lucky student’s name that was drawn was Nicholas Older-Prescott, and the campaign is going well and it ends on October 15th, with the top selling class getting a lunchtime pizza party and the top student seller picking up a.$100.00 Toys ‘r Us certificate You gotta try those heavenly coffee bars and you can drop by the office during school hours to buy a few or even buy a case to give to your fellow workers, they will thank you for the ultimate afternoon snack.
Last but not least, as we mentioned last week, the school is getting ready to host over 100 delegates for the fall conference of the Quebec Home and Schools Federation on Saturday, October 25th. The public is invited to attend at a cost this prestigious event and we will have a look at the agenda and what the school will be doing in a special article next week. So stay tuned!
Principal David Abracen hosted his first Meet the Teacher evening and addressed the parents by way of getting involved in school life by way of volunteering in various school events, then inviting parents to visit their child’s various teachers and to hear about the curriculum for the year.
Then later, it was the General Assembly and a small turnout for the Governing board elections with not too many parents showing up for this important democratic process in your child’s school life. There were 6 parents nominated for 4 openings, and elected to a 2- year term are newcomers Chrystal Henderson and Angela Vaudry, along with Lynn Pidlisny and Ron Williams who were re-elected.
The second Pep Rally was held last week at adjacent Beurling Park and with main organizer teacher Isabelle Alarie introducing the various sports teams for the fall season along with aid of Beurling Bobcat, who we were told the person inside the suit is, none other than Mr. Bob Cat. Neat! Following which there was a teacher-student soccer game which the students edged out the teachers 3-2 and there is no truth to the rumor that teacher Jim Colley will be drafted by the Impact as a goalkeeper.
Also from Miss Alarie, the grads held their annual car wash with a good turnout. A big thank you goes out to Mr. Abassi and his team at the Petro-Canada on Woodland, along with thanks going to teachers Ms. Panko, Ms. Magotiaux, Mr. Alexander and Mr. Auger for volunteering.
For new parents looking at BA as an option for their child next school year, you want to be there for the Annual Open House on October 16th at 7:00 p.m. and your chance to view the spacious building and hear about the various programs.
BA Sports: At Press time, all sports teams have been off to a good start with the girls juvie soccer team at 4 and 1. Also in soccer, the juvenile boys team is at 2 and 1, the midget boys team at 1-1-1, the girls bantam team is at 2 and 0 and the boys bantams are off to a rough start at 1 and 3. The girls midget volleyball team is at 2-1-1 and the boys juvenile touch football team is at 1 an 1.
