AMANDA’S WORLD

As we mentioned last week, BA’s Amanda Pidlisny has her first monthly column this week called, “A Day in the Life of a High school Student.” Check it out on the website, we know you’ll just like it and will put a smile on your face.

RIVERVIEW

It’s that time once again next weekend on Saturday the 31st, when kids and parents alike dress up in their favorite characters and seek out all sorts of goodies. Riverview is no exception to this time of the year celebrating this always annual scary time of the year with their Annual Halloween evening next Thursday evening and you’re all invited!

Check out those great pumpkin works of art and vote for your favorite and don’t forget to enter that always creepy area in the gym called the Haunted House and where you might meet scary characters in their humble abode. We know it will be a graveyard smash. Call the school for the exact time.

As well, don’t forget to pencil in your calendar for that next great fundraiser bingo on Saturday the 7th and your chance at winning some great prizes and some cool cash in the half and half raffle. So look out here for more details in the next few weeks.

BEURLING ACADEMY

BA Sports. The girls juvie softball team are into playoff action after defeating LCCHS twice last week and will most likely face Beaconsfield and finish their season at 4 and 2. The girls juvie volleyball team have also clinched a playoff berth and picked up another 3 points and brought their record to 6 wins and one loss with 3 ties. BA, once again, will be hosting the next tournament this coming Tuesday at 3:45 pm. The boys juvenile soccer team, under coach Gary Lindner, finished 4 and 2 and travel to JFK next Monday for quarter-final action…..The boys touch football with a tie at least in their last game, will put them into the finals next Friday the 30th at St.Thomas High……..The girls juvenile soccer team finished their season undeafeated with 4 wind and 2 ties with a 6-4 victory over Bialik this past Tuesday and 1-1 tie with Royal Vale this past Wednesday and finished in first place. They will be hosting Kuper Academy in quarter-final action this coming Monday at Queen E. Park starting at 3:30 pm.

Well, the Extreme Makeover of the BA lockers is now complete. It took a year of hard work by the many students who participated under the leadership of teachers Myra Bernardin and Kyle Rougeau. Over 800 lockers were painted in that warm burgundy tone, one of the school’s colors and now give the corridors that spic-and-span look.

A big thanks goes to all those students, this and last year who worked tirelessly in this huge endeavor, and to Principal David Abracen, for feeding the students on those painting days. This idea, which was an initiative of last year’s student council, was a way to improve the school look, and will benefit the staff and students for many years to come.

Along with last year’s new doors and windows and recent roof work and the painting of classrooms, the building celebrating its 50th anniversary in January of 2011, one can truly say that the grand lady of 6100 Champlain Blvd isn’t getting older, but getting better. Who knows, it just might be a good time for a celebration.

And, last but certainly not least, many of us forget about Oct.5th, but little do many of us know that it’s World Teachers’ Day. It has been held annually on this day since 1994, and intended to mobilize support for teachers and their organizations worldwide.

This past Oct. 5th, the students of teacher Miss Tamara Beach’s Sec 3 Community Leadership class hosted a refreshment break for the teachers to celebrate this International Day and to recognize their important contributions.

The students baked delicious cupcakes and fancy cakes. Sure tastes yummy. The students also took the time to write creative poems and to serenade the teachers in song with those great voices.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK.
